Fireplaces: The Center of Attention

The functional beauty of these marvelous architectural features.

Fireplaces may be the visual focal point of the room, but for most of the year we underestimate their precious power. Winter has a way of reminding us just how important these architectural features are in keeping us safe and warm.

Even without being lit, fireplaces quietly command the attention in any room. We arrange rooms around them, gather in front of them and design entire homes around their placement. Most of the time not really considering their power to keep us warm in winter.

And then January rolls n with its signature Arctic chill, and suddenly we are all cuddled up in front of these magnificent fire-breathing features. This is when the fireplace becomes the true anchor of the room. This is when you are so incredibly grateful for their ability to produce heat — even without the house powered up.

We love enjoying a movie at home, all cozy on the sectional under a fur blanket. A fire roaring in the fireplace. The cold can stay outside one more day while we stay inside appreciating the simple bliss of being warm.

Whether you love a modern marble surround or a classic carved wood mantel, collected here are many of the fireplaces featured in our projects over the years. Which is your favorite style?
