Pillow Talk

Pillow Talk

Let’s talk about pillows.

Nothing says comfort and relaxation like a great pillow, or pile of pillows like I prefer.  They are essential for lounging, for sleeping, for aesthetics…  So why is it that composing the perfect palette of pillows can be so difficult?

Well, for starters, there are literally millions of options.  You can go to your local Target, TJ Maxx, higher end home stores, or even have pillows custom made for your space (which is my preference – I have a fabulous custom pillow creator in Atlanta if you are in need…). Still though, forming the right color palette and group of textures for your space can be challenging.

So, I’ve compiled a list tips to perfectly accessorize your space using the most comfortable accessory EVER… PILLOWS.

Let the tips commence!

1. Mix pillow sizes.

Nothing says corporate and boring like the same pillow material and size throughout a space.  Mix it up!  Use different shapes and sizes to create visual interest.

2. Mix pillow textures.

Again, you want to keep your pillows interesting.  Use different types of fabric and textures to not only enhance the look of your space, but also to tap into one of your greatest senses – touch.  I cannot reiterate how important this is for the aesthetics of your space, but also for your own personal comfort.

3. Incorporate pops of color.

Color is king in the world of interior design.  It evokes the mood of the space immediately when you walk in.  Bright colors = inspiration. Warm colors = homey and comforting.  Cool colors = sophisticated and clean.  Neutral colors = relaxation.  So, as you choose pillows, keep in mind what kind of mood you want to evoke in the space.  If you have a neutral palette, like many homes do, think about incorporating brighter pops of color – whatever color blends easily with your space’s color palette but also evokes the mood you want people to feel when they walk in.

4. Add a throw blanket.

I know a throw blanket is not a pillow, however, a throw blanket in addition to a beautiful mix of pillows is absolutely beautiful and completely functional.  Who doesn’t, after a long day at the office, want to come home and curl up with gorgeous, comfortable pillows, and a warm, fuzzy throw blanket?  When choosing a throw, keep in mind the tips above…
