We spend a lot of time in our homes. They should be a place where we feel safe, comfortable, even inspired. Has it been a while since you updated though? Have you lived in your home for many years? Are you feeling a little bored with your surroundings?
It may be time for an update. And it doesn’t have to cost a fortune to fall back in love with your home. By implementing my suggestions below, you will feel utterly blissful! And you deserve it! 😉
A fresh coat of paint transforms a space. I liken it to putting on makeup. You may not need it, but once its on, you feel like a million bucks. Its the same with paint. With the right color palette you can transform your space from boring to palatial.
What colors do you gravitate toward? What colors do you continuously find yourself wearing? You want to love your home, so choose a color that you love. I will say that bright colors look dated quickly, so if you tend to like bright colors, I would recommend you choose a muted version of that color. It will look much more sophisticated and contemporary.
I personally love grey right now. It is the new beige and it works so well in pretty much every space. And if you are repainting all the rooms in your home and want a cohesive style, choose different shades of grey throughout. It will give your space a sense of uniformity while still maintaining visual interest.
Here is a post I wrote recently about my favorite shades of grey.
2. Change out lighting
Lighting is such an important aspect of a space. Not only does it provide a much needed glow so we can see when it is dark, it can also double as a beautiful piece of art/focal point. Every room needs a focal point, so why not use a beautiful chandelier to do just that?
Wall sconces, lamps, and floor lighting also make a huge difference. Incorporate lighting that fits your personality. There are thousands of options to choose from! Are you traditional? Modern? Eccentric? – There is a piece out there for you. Find it, buy it, and love it in your space. It will make a huge difference!

3. Update your accessories
Updating your accessories is one of the easiest ways to refresh your space inexpensively. Purchase a new throw blanket. Purchase new pillows. Purchase new candles. Purchase a new rug… There are so many options for updating your accessories, choose one that excites you.
Here are a couple ideas… Choose a set of pillows and throw blanket for each season, and then change them out quarterly to refresh your space every few months. Have an old side table you love, but want to bring it into 2015? Repaint it to match your new color palette. You can do the same with your picture frames for an updated look.
With a little creativity and elbow grease, the possibilities are literally endless. Cheers to making your space one that makes you feel positively blissful!
