Colors Trends 2016: Milky Blue & How to Make it Work for You

Blog Post Template

Let’s continue our series on colors that are trending in 2016.  Today we will be going over milky blue and how to make it work in your space.

Traditionally, in the United States, milky blue was relegated to male infant nurseries.  While it fits perfectly in this type of setting, milky blue is now breaking away from its previous parameters and bursting onto the walls and into accessories and decor across the country.  Its becoming so popular in fact, that Pantone made it one of the two colors it chose for 2016: Rose Quartz and Serenity (here is the blog post I did about these colors).  I don’t think its any accident that the shade of milky blue they chose is called “Serenity,” as it brings with it a sense of peace and calm.  – Two feelings that any homeowner would welcome in as treasured guests.

I love that milky blue is busting out of the nursery and into other predominant spaces in our lives.  I think of this color as being highly versatile and wherever it goes, it brings a little piece of peace with it.  Seriously, what’s not to love about milky blue?

Here are a few ways you can incorporate milky blue into your life & space:

1. Paint Your Walls

Milky blue is fabulous for all kinds of spaces in your home.  A home office, a bedroom, a living room, a dining room – you name it as milky blue is adaptable.  I love it paired with other soft blue shades, whites, and lilacs.

If you want a very restful home, the ethereal nature of this color makes it a top contender.

Here are a few shades of milky blue I really like:

2. Purchase a piece (or several pieces) of furniture in milky blue.

Milky blue furniture can be absolutely stunning in your space.  I especially love it in a velvet fabric.  Its restful, peaceful, and if you choose the right piece, oh-so-comfortable.

3. Incorporate a milky blue rug.

Milky blue is no longer reserved for the walls or furniture.  Its making its way onto our floors, as well.  This is a great thing as you will see below.

4. Buy some fun throw pillows and blankets in milky blue.

I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again, throw pillows and blankets are a great way to incorporate trending colors into your space without breaking the bank.  You can change them out as quickly as you bought them.

Here are some fun, milky blue pillows and throws:

5. Incorporate milky blue accessories and artwork.

Accessories and artwork are another great way to include trending colors in your space.  They add beautiful pops of color, but are faster to change out than your wall color.

Here are several home decor accessories and pieces of artwork that include milky blue:

Milky blue is beautiful, soft, serene, and with a touch of the unexpected.  It’s a nod to the traditional French countryside while simultaneously being of the moment.  Its a color that truly transcends time.

What do you think?  Do you like milky blue?  Have you used it or will you use it in your space?  I would love to hear from you!
