Color Trends 2016: Bold Green & How to Make it Work for You

Color Trends 2016- Bold Green & How to Make it Work for You

2016 is bringing with it all kinds of color trends.  Pantone, for the first time in history, picked two colors of the year (rose quartz and serenity – you can check out my blog post about them here).  So, needless to say, unexpected things are happening in the realm of interior design and color.  I have to say, it’s very exciting.

Today, I’m going to talk to you about a 2016 color trend I have been researching: bold green.  Rich, exciting, full of life, bold green works in both contemporary and traditional spaces – transcending barriers that most interior designers would deem clear cut.  Like a lovely plant, it breaths life into a space and adds a depth and vibrancy that really only bold green can do.

Below are 5 ways to add this gorgeous trending color into your space:

1. Paint your walls.

Bold green is a fabulous color to waken up a room.  Whether you paint the entire room, or just a feature wall, this color is sure to bring a renewed energy into your space.  However, because it is bold, make certain you really love the color before covering your walls with it.  Your space can certainly be repainted but bold colors are harder to cover up.

Here are a few hues I really like:

2. Purchase a lovely piece of furniture in bold green.

As with anything else in life, moderation is key.  If you paint your walls bold green, do not buy bold green furniture.  If you purchase bold green furniture, do not buy a bold green rug.  This color is powerful, so you don’t want to overdo it.  However, done in a considerate way, it will make your space stand out from the rest.  I love the idea of mixing a jewel tone like bold green with neutral walls – specifically white walls.  White makes the bold green really pop!

Here are a couple of furniture suggestions along with a great white paint to contrast them:

3. Buy a rug that incorporates a shade of deep green.

Rugs are incredibly important when it comes to smart, stylish living.  They complete a room in my eyes, and bold green incorporates itself flawlessly in a great rug.  Again, moderation is key when decorating with bold colors.  My suggestion would be that if you use a bold green rug, let it be the show stopper, and then purchase green accessories to tie the space together.

4. Invest in throw pillows and blankets in bold green.

Throw pillows and blankets are a great, inexpensive way to incorporate color trends.  To do so effectively and to make sure they do not clash with what you have already, make sure your walls and furniture are neutral in color.  I liken it to a blank canvas.  When you have a blank canvas, you can play with all sorts of different colors and get away with it.

5. Have fun with green accessories and artwork.

Accessories and artwork are another great way of incorporating trending colors into your space.  They add a great pop of color, but are also easily removed and stored when you want to switch the color palette up in your home.
