Tuxedo Arm

The tuxedo arm is absolutely one of my FAVORITE arm styles – especially with a bench cushion (single seat cushion).  It is chic and modern, but also incredibly comfortable.  Whether your home is formal, casual, or somewhere in between, there is a tuxedo arm piece that will be perfect for you!  Think of it this way… just like a man can be transformed by a great tux, so your space can be transformed by a great tuxedo arm.

A tuxedo arm can come in many forms.  Some have a tight cushion back, some have a loose cushion back, and some even have several cushion backs.  No matter what your preference, there is a tuxedo arm style just right for you.

Thought to have been first created in the 1920’s in the posh town of Tuxedo Park, New York (where an actually tuxedo also hails from), the tuxedo ushered in the modern era of furniture.  The defining characteristic of the tuxedo sofa is that the height of the arms and the back are identical – which often means that any cushions on the sofa actually rise above the piece itself.  Depending on the individual piece, cushions may be either attached or detached, but most often they are detached.  The earliest versions of the tuxedo sofa had arms that curved outward, however, more modern renditions now have arms that are very straight and upholstered with only a small amount of padding.

In sum, the tuxedo style arm has a sleek and contemporary silhouette – making it a FABULOUS choice for the interior design conscious man.  This style transcends the anxiety surrounding what type of furniture you may want as it is ALWAYS a good choice.
