I’ve heard it called various names by clients over the years and I always know what they are referring to when they ask for the “little buttons, dots, nails, or spots.”
Nailheads can be applied to anything from furniture, mirrors, doors, picture frames, bulletin boards, even walls to name a few. In the last few years it has become a new “on-trend” embellishment that designers have used to distinguish their designs. It is used in both contemporary and traditional furnishings. The nails can be used to create patterns as well as outline the shape of a piece.
Nailheads come in a variety of shapes and sizes. Nails can dress up or dress down a piece of furniture and add an extra layer of pattern and texture to make items more interesting. When they are used in unexpected, creative ways, they can elevate a piece to something that is more along the lines of a piece of art.
