Harvest Table

Harvest Table:

A harvest table is a narrow rectangular table that has hinged drop leaves.

The design of this table makes it highly functional in small spaces, as even when the drop leaves are down, there is still a considerable amount of usable surface area.

Here are a few examples of a harvest table:

5 Bed Frames Fit For Your Master Suite

5 Bed Frames Fit For Your Master Suite

Your master suite should be your sanctuary, oasis, sacred space – that one place you go to escape from the busyness of the world.  There are a variety of ways to achieve this other worldly ambience:

wall color/wall paper

accessories

lighting

artwork

linens

and… furniture.  Specifically, the bed frame.

The bed frame is the equivalent of the main dish in your multi course meal.  With out it, you’ll be left with a pretty empty space, or continuing on with the metaphor in the previous sentence, hungry.  Neither of which signify oasis, sanctuary, sacred space… So, that’s why I’ve compiled a list of 5 bed frames, tailored to 5 very different design styles to help you get started.

For the Mid Century Modern Lover:

Are you a Mad Men lover?  Do you love a good 60’s era throwback?  Then this bed frame is for you.  I love the combination of wood and fabric.  It creates a modern look without being too cold.

For the Glamorous, Hollywood Regency style Lover:

Are you a lover of the finer things in life?  Obsessed with film and the glamour of Hollywood?  Then this bed frame is for you!  It exudes luxury and is so big that it’s a force to be reckoned with – just like a classic Hollywood star.

For the Downtown Loft Lover:

Are you a city slicker?  A lover of industrial elements?  Then this bed frame is calling your name.  Its masculine and edgy and perfect for a bachelor pad or downtown loft with exposed brick.  Bonus: because its metal, it will last forever!

For the Transitional/Traditional with a Twist Lover:

Are you a traditionalist who wants to branch out?  A book lover who spends every evening with your nose between pages?  This bed frame is beckoning you.  It’s soft and comfortable.  While it’s shape is fairly traditional, the fabric and color make it feel contemporary.  This inlet bed reminds me of a Diane Keaton movie with a perfectly decorated interior set design.

For the Contemporary Style Lover:

Are you a lover of luxury?  Contemporary styles and shapes?  If yes, then this bed frame has your name all over it. It will elevate any master suite to a 5-star-hotel-penthouse-level.  It’s that good!  Its simple, yet interesting.  To me, the epitome of great style.

Congratulations! You are now one step closer to creating the sanctuary-oasis-sacred-space of your dreams.  You deserve to have a space in your home that you absolutely love – invest in the pieces that excite you until you have achieved that level of satisfaction.  It is totally worth it.

Design Defined: Flax

Flax

Flax:

Flax is the plant from which linen is made.

Linen is a fabric commonly used for furniture, pillows, clothing, and shoes.

Here is a short video about the flax plant:

Now that you know how flax is harvested, here are a few pictures of where linen can be used in your space:

Linen is not particularly soft, however, it is very light, and it provides great texture in your space.  I love adding linen pillows to living rooms as they create a laid back, beach-y kind of feel.

What do you think?  Do you have a flax plant or enjoy the benefits of linen in your space or wardrobe?  I would love to hear from you.
