Contemporary Cushions & Poufs for Your Space

Contemporary Cushions & Poufs for Your Space

“Seek home for rest, for home is best.”

Thomas Tusser

I love clean, uncluttered, contemporary spaces (if you don’t believe me, just check out my portfolio), but to me, in order for a space to be “home,” it has to be comfortable, as well.  While great interior design will always be King, comfort and function are most certainly Queen.

So what am I getting at?  That Thomas Tusser is so right!  Home IS the best and that is exactly why I am writing this blog post highlighting cushions and poufs.  Because nothing says rest and relaxation like cushions and poufs.  Am I right?

Relax, just pouf it.

6 Contemporary Cushions & Poufs for Your Space:

1. KNOTSstudio Floor Cushions

www.etsy.com KNOTSstudio Large Beige Floor Cushions

Pick the Right Scent for Your Bachelor Pad

Pick the Right Scent for Your Bachelor Pad

I think a fragrance is more of a signature than even what you wear – something you’ll remember more down the road than a shirt.

– Ryan Reynolds –

And if Ryan Reynolds says it, it must be true right?  Scent plays a large part in our lives.  It can remind us of times past, comfort us, spark our appetite, attract us to someone… while preferences may vary, no one can argue that scent is an incredibly powerful thing.

That’s why its so important to incorporate scent into the ambience of your home.  Like a cherry to an ice cream sundae, scent is the perfect finishing detail to your bachelor pad.  And we all know, the details matter!

Here are 5 Masculine Scents Worthy of Inhabiting Your Bachelor Pad:

1. EUCALYPTUS by Thymes.

www.thymes.com EUCALYPTUS GIFT SET

www.thymes.com EUCALYPTUS GIFT SET

Thymes.com describes this scent as:

“Invigorating eucalyptus oil. Crisp Italian lemon. Bright lime. Energizing petitgrain. Sweet bergamot. Lively lemongrass. Heady rosewood. Lush fir.”

Doesn’t it sound refreshing?

2. “TOMPKINS” SCENTED CANDLE by Blind Barber.

www.blindbarber.com "TOMPKINS" SCENTED CANDLE

www.blindbarber.com “TOMPKINS” SCENTED CANDLE

Here’s how BlindBarber.com describes this masculine scent:

“when we were designing the scent of the candle we envisioned walking into our barber shop and being hit with the clean smell of fresh towels.” the candles, which feature soy wax and are hand-poured in new york city, also have key notes of honey, smoke, leather and lavender, each chosen because of their special connection to the barber shop.

the notes are eclectic yet fit perfectly together; just like the candle’s namesake tompkins square park as well as the east village where the blind barber is located. the candles are midnight blue and are housed in “barbicide” jars, the iconic, stainless steel and molded glass jars used by barbers everywhere.”

Iconic and fresh.  Does it get more contemporary and masculine than that?

3. White Wood Number Two by Baxter of California.

www.baxterofcalifornia.com FLAMMABLE - WHITE WOOD 2

www.baxterofcalifornia.com FLAMMABLE – WHITE WOOD 2

Baxterofcalifornia.com describes the scent like this:

“The scented soy wax candle collection “White Wood” is a series of 3 distinct woodsy scents, with packaging design by Marc Atlan. Burn time is roughly 100 hours.

Fragrance notes:
-Bergamot
-Mandarin
-Mission Fig
-Santalum
-Vetiver”

Bergamot?  Mandarin?  Vetiver?  This sounds (and smells) AMAZING.

4. Sage and Walnut Diffuser by LAFCO New York.

LAFCO.com has this to say about its diffuser:

“Deep, earthy, and warm; a blend of walnut, green sage, and chestnut.

Our hand blown glass diffusers filled with natural essential oil based fragrances, unite home fragrance with art to create the perfect ambiance.”

And who doesn’t want to unite home fragrance and art?  Perfection.

5. Vetiver by Malin + Goetz.

www.malinandgoetz.com vetiver candle

www.malinandgoetz.com vetiver candle

Malinandgoetz.com shares this about their popular scent:

“A modern interpretation of the legendary, aromatic classic, our vetiver candle synthesizes grassy notes for a cool, classic, earthy scent.  Known for its tranquil and restorative energy, vetiver is a clean, fresh and comfortable scent.  With fruit and citrus at the top, clove leaf at the middle, and cedarwood and vetiver at its dry down, our vetiver candle is classic. “

Legendary… Classic… Cool… Comfortable…  Is this scent speaking your language yet?  (It is mine.)

Scent is such an important detail within your home.  Its an extension of you and your personal style.  It can be warm and inviting, cool and fresh, or earthy and natural.  There are endless options when it comes to candle, diffuser, and room spray scents – just be sure to pick one that is indicative of what you like.  That way, home will truly delight all your senses.

Color Trends 2016: Clean White & How to Make it Work for You

clean white

Let’s continue our series on colors that are trending in 2016.  Clean white stands out amongst the rest as a color that has truly stood the test of time, while maintaining a contemporary edge.

Clean white is chameleon like in its ability to both blend in and totally stand out depending on the space.  Layering clean white in slightly differing shades can create a gorgeous monotone room, while using clean white as a backdrop for bold colors also makes a big statement.  Clean white is one of those unusual colors that knows how to pack a punch no matter where you find it.

Are you ready to dive in and find out how to make clean white work for you?

Let’s begin!

Here are a 5 ways you can incorporate clean white into your life & space:

1. Paint Your Walls

Clean white is a totally blank canvas.  It feels bold and bright in a contemporary space, and it feels warm and inviting in a traditional space.  It is probably the most versatile color on the planet.  You can play it up or play it down – the possibilities are endless.

Here are a few shades of clean white I really like:

2. Purchase a piece (or several pieces) of furniture in clean white.

Clean white furniture can be gorgeous and oh-so-versatile in your space.  Linen, velvet, leather – pretty much every fabric looks fabulous in white.

Here are a few examples of clean white colored furniture:

3. Incorporate a clean white rug.

A clean white rug is the epitome of high style.  My only suggestion is before purchasing a white rug to make sure it has been treated with stain protector.

4. Buy some fun throw pillows and blankets in clean white.

Simplicity is a good thing and nothing says simplicity like clean white pillows and blankets.

5. Incorporate clean white accessories and artwork.

Accessories and artwork are another great way to include trending colors in your space.  They add beautiful pops of color, but are much easier to switch out than the paint on your walls.

Here are several home decor accessories and pieces of artwork that include clean white:

As you can gather, clean white can be used anywhere.  It’s the perfect color for a fresh start AND the perfect color to add a finishing touch.  Your walls, your furniture, your accessories and artwork – everything looks good in clean white!

What do you think?  Do you like clean white?  Have you used it or will you use it in your space?  I would love to hear from you!

Colors Trends 2016: Milky Blue & How to Make it Work for You

Blog Post Template

Let’s continue our series on colors that are trending in 2016.  Today we will be going over milky blue and how to make it work in your space.

Traditionally, in the United States, milky blue was relegated to male infant nurseries.  While it fits perfectly in this type of setting, milky blue is now breaking away from its previous parameters and bursting onto the walls and into accessories and decor across the country.  Its becoming so popular in fact, that Pantone made it one of the two colors it chose for 2016: Rose Quartz and Serenity (here is the blog post I did about these colors).  I don’t think its any accident that the shade of milky blue they chose is called “Serenity,” as it brings with it a sense of peace and calm.  – Two feelings that any homeowner would welcome in as treasured guests.

I love that milky blue is busting out of the nursery and into other predominant spaces in our lives.  I think of this color as being highly versatile and wherever it goes, it brings a little piece of peace with it.  Seriously, what’s not to love about milky blue?

Here are a few ways you can incorporate milky blue into your life & space:

1. Paint Your Walls

Milky blue is fabulous for all kinds of spaces in your home.  A home office, a bedroom, a living room, a dining room – you name it as milky blue is adaptable.  I love it paired with other soft blue shades, whites, and lilacs.

If you want a very restful home, the ethereal nature of this color makes it a top contender.

Here are a few shades of milky blue I really like:

2. Purchase a piece (or several pieces) of furniture in milky blue.

Milky blue furniture can be absolutely stunning in your space.  I especially love it in a velvet fabric.  Its restful, peaceful, and if you choose the right piece, oh-so-comfortable.

3. Incorporate a milky blue rug.

Milky blue is no longer reserved for the walls or furniture.  Its making its way onto our floors, as well.  This is a great thing as you will see below.

4. Buy some fun throw pillows and blankets in milky blue.

I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again, throw pillows and blankets are a great way to incorporate trending colors into your space without breaking the bank.  You can change them out as quickly as you bought them.
